Maritime Mine Countermeasures (MCM)

Naval and maritime security relies on accurate information about objects on the seabed. A typical sonar survey will turn up 1000s of contacts in every square-kilometre of seabed covered, each of which must be assessed for risk. Hydrason’s wideband automatic target recognition (ATR) has a positive impact on mission tempos by massively reducing the false alarm rate through positive target ID.

Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Detection

Many areas identified for exploration, route survey or installation of offshore infrastructure are affected by the munitions legacy of multiple wars. Ordnance disposal was frequently done at sea with little or no record kept either of quantities or types of materials dumped. UXO discovery is an ongoing problem for new and pre-existing installations. Hydrason’s ATR can be used for risk assessment to reduce the numbers of objects requiring close visual inspection. This approach reduces risk and improves survey speed, so that installations can proceed more efficiently.

The latest versions of our arrays offer new capabilities in beam steering and autofocus. Uniquely in a compact, ultra-wideband system, these features give access to spectral coherence algorithms which push recognition capabilities far beyond the existing state-of-the-art. In combination with increased autonomy, this gives the ability to combat increasingly adaptable improvised threats as well as meeting more traditional challenges in maritime security.
